On Saturday and Sunday Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is pleased to present Magician and Entertainer Douglass the MagicMan. His magic
will leave you scratching you head with amazement.
Douglass the MagicMan is an accomplished magician who became interested
in magic at a very young age. Douglass got his first magic set from the
Main St. Magic Shoppe in Disneyland. An admirer of Mark Wilson, Doug
Henning, and of course Houdini; Douglass is the president of the
Society of American Magicians Assembly #112.
Douglass has won awards for Table Hopping magic, Close-Up magic, and Stage magic
in amateur and professional competitions and can also be seen performing
as a regular with
Biernacki and the Illusion magical rock band.

wonderfully funny magic. Originally from Connecticut, Frank
assisted other magicians at Playland-Not-at-the-Beach, but always in a
sidekick role. When one of the in-house
magicians became ill, Frank
began performing his own shows. This guy is really Fabulous
and knows how to have a good time with his audience!!!

Relay Luminaria Workshop
Honor cancer survivors and those we have lost while donating to the
American Cancer Society. Luminarias are an important visual element
of the evening ceremonies at the Relay For Life of El Cerrito in
July. There will be a luminiaria work station at
Playland-Not-at-the-Beach through July 14th. Come and create a
luminaria or have one of our volunteers create one for you or a
loved one.

Magical
Nathaniel performing some of his most amazing stunts. Nathaniel
is our 18-year old in-house discovery. He has been performing since he was
3 years old, and he is an amazing magician and magic inventor. If you have
never seen him in person, you will adore Magical Nathaniel.

Magician Mike Della Penna

Magician Mike Della Penna is a transplanted New England illusionist
who also teaches second grade in the Berkeley School System. Mike perfected his entertainment
skills as a stand-up comic in Boston but developed an early love for children's
magic. His live shows are extraordinary as he involves make believe and
interactivity which embraces every child's dream of what just might be
possible. His assistant is Clara the Clarevoyant Duck who has amazing powers
even when blindfolded. Mike taught Playland's 2010, 2011, and 2012 sold out Magic Camps (where he got
raves from his students). Don't miss this amazing performer.

Playland After Dark had such a blast hosting our Grown-up Game
Nights (last Thursday of every month) that we had to open up the
Museum of Fun to adult-only-admission another evening. Join us
for the second Tuesday each month—same time (6pm – 10pm), same
low price ($10 for all the FREE PLAY pinball, arcade and carnival
games), same fun (board games with friends old and new).

Scott Alcalay

Scott Alcalay was the very first magician to perform at
Playland-Not-at-the-Beach — way back at our Sneak Peek event in
2005. Ironically that day he created exquisite balloon animals for
our many guests. We did not learn until later of his magical
powers. He is also the president of the Oakland Magic Circle.

Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is excited to bring back our Magic
Camp Workshop with Mike Della Penna for a fourth straight
year.
This summer, Mike will be teaching THREE week-long
sessions!
Master
magician Mike Della Penna, aided by several special guests,
leads students of any level, age or ability through five days of
learning and laughter.
Every Magic Camper will receive a
magic book and all the materials necessary for the course.
The workshop will help campers learn to perform new
magical effects, improve your performing skills and make
friends as interested in magic as you are! Sign up quickly as
Magic Camp will fill up fast!

Session 1 — June 25 & 27
Session 2 — July 16 & 18
Session 3 — August 6 & 8
New this year, we have created a magic camp just for those 5-7 years
old. This workshop is offered the same weeks as our Magic Camp for
two days (Tuesday and Thursday) instead of the full week and is two
hours long each day. A blend of crafts and magic, campers will make
props and be taught how to use them to perform magic effects. All
materials needed for the class are provided. This class is great for
campers with smaller hands and possibly shorter attention spans. Our
instructor draws not only on his magic experience, but also his
experience teaching second grade. July and August sessions are also
available.
Every Magic Camper will receive a
magic book and all the materials necessary for the course.
The workshop will help campers learn to perform new
magical effects, improve your performing skills and make
